The Making of The Man Your Man Could Smell Like
Hello ladies.
Here’s the ad that made the rounds and that everyone I know whose seen it loves: The Man Your Man Could Smell Like.
That’s interesting enough and if it weren’t the 2010 Winter Olympics of advertising it would merit a post on its own.
But it gets better for ad geeks because here’s a longish video of the making of The Man Your Man Could Smell Like.
Who is The Man Your Man Could Smell Like?
Isaiah Mustafa, a former NFL wide receiver who is also on Twitter.
But the most interesting part of The Man Your Man Could Smell Like phenomena is how the initial ad has earned so much more value because of its creativity.
This is the 80 / 20 flip in action. The value of the creative is so much higher than the value of the media bought to air the creative.
I wonder when we’ll start to see an array of ads from The Man Your Man Could Smell like — different stories and settings that the agency, Wieden + Kennedy, could watch for reaction. When one takes off, to promote it further. Experiment and learn. Find the niches and patterns for the next creative work.
Because the creative is the key to the campaign. The media buy is a tactic that gets used to augment the creative, to goose it to start, to drive it in key markets.
Now how to create all that creative for the experiments in a fast, easy and cost-effective way?
