Typography: The art of making fonts sexy
We encounter fonts and character sets every day. Whether it be on the Internet, in the news paper, on TV or the products we buy, we see fonts being used.
I know what you’re thinking. It makes it hard to call something we encounter daily (and barley notice or care about) sexy. Or for that matter even art.
About Typography
Sure, we are exposed to thousands of fonts and typefaces on a regular basis. but just like most things we all use, some people just use them better then others.
I’m talking about Typography experts. AKA typesetters, compositors, typographers, graphic artists, art directors, comic book artists, and clerical workers. They are the experts of making words and fonts sexy.
For those of you that don’t know what Typography is allow me to elaborate.
Typography is the art and techniques of arranging type, type design, and modifying type glyphs. Type glyphs are created and modified using a variety of illustration techniques. The arrangement of type involves the selection of typefaces, point size, line length, leading (line spacing), adjusting the spaces between groups of letters (tracking) and (kerning) adjusting the space between pairs of letters. (Well said Wikipedia!).
