Cell Phone Video Wins Award, Proves Mankind Is No Island

Treehouse Creative won both People’s Choice and Best Film at the Tropfest, the “world’s largest short film festival,” for the following video, Mankind Is No Island.

It was shot entirely on a cell phone from found objects, signs and scenes. Nothing in the film was created for the film. The entire production cost $57.

Incredible stories are all around us. We just need to be able to see them, act on what we see and persevere when the inspiration requires perspiration to drive it to completion.

There are only barriers when you look for barriers.

Thanks to Presentation Zen for the pointer.

Imagination, creativity, determination and a vision can accomplish many things without the state of the art equipment. Very good piece of film!

That was an epic piece of film. It's pretty hard to get me to pay attention to anything remotely PSA.

Awesome music, great editing and cinematography / shot selection.

Just goes to show you that you're bound by your imagination not your equipment.

Excellent!

But it sets a dangerous precedent. If you can win short film awards with a $57 budget, it means: that no one can sit around whining and waiting for funding before they prove to the world their artistic mettle, that a lack of equipment has been ruled out as an excuse too, and that user generated content is fighting WAY above its weight class.

These guys wrote their own ticket for $57 (probably spent on a memory card and some meals). Your move, internet.
