AdHack Case Study: Techvibes Print Ad
TechVibes recently commissioned a print ad from the ad creators of the AdHack community.
Those ad creators responded in force, creating a group of excellent print ad submissions for Techvibes.
From the submissions, Rob Lewis of Techvibes selected a shortlist of 3 finalists. Rob also decided to engage the Techvibes audience in the decision process.
From that shortlist of 3 ads, Rob selected the winning ad for Techvibes. Or, rather, Rob selected the winning ads, since he liked the copy from craigriggs and the design from ddrucker.
Then once the digital dust had cleared AdHack’s community manager Corey Rollins asked Rob a few questions about his experience commissioning an ad on AdHack.
Corey Rollins: How did the AdHack service directly benefit you as an ad buyer?
Rob Lewis: I got a great ad quickly and inexpensively. Enough said.
CR: How was this service different from your past advertising purchases?
RL: I’ve dealt with individual designers for creating ads before and the process tends to be time consuming and expensive. Advertisers pay through the nose to have 1 or 2 creative types brainstorm an idea and often they’re not on the right path until they’re received a couple rounds of feedback anyways.
CR: What were your thoughts on the quality of the end product? (Quality, price, customization etc.)
RL: The quality of the delivered ad was comparable to ads I’ve commissioned through others in the past.
CR: What was your perception of the quality and selection of the user submissions?RL: As a beta site, I wasn’t expecting a huge number of submissions and I was right — however, the quality was good and I was able to provide feedback to fine-tune the submissions.
CR: Was AdHack easy to use?RL: You guys did all the heavy-lifting for me, so it’s probably not fair for me to say YES.
CR: What would make AdHack and the Ad Buying process better in your opinion?
RL: I’ve used 99designs.com a couple times and it is a dead simple self-serve site — even I can use it. AdHack needs to get there, but you guys already know that and are well on your way.
Also, once you have a critical mass of users, it will be helpful to use AdHack to let the crowd have some input on their favourite submission — this piece is lacking right now.
CR: Would you recommend this service to someone else? Why specifically?
RL: Definitely. Of all the crazy applications where crowd sourcing has been applied, logo/ad creative makes the most sense. Where else can you affordably get a couple dozen (or more) concepts to choose from?
Thanks to Rob for the suggestions (which we’re working on) and for being a good sport!
