Edelman launches Edelman Studios

PR giant Edelman has launched Edelman Studios, which seems interesting to this AdHack mind.

Edelman, the world’s leading independent PR firm, today announced the creation of Edelman Studios, a virtual studio designed to pair emerging talent and established storytellers with brands and companies looking to connect with consumers in new ways. The studio will solicit and develop creative content, such as television shows, short and feature films, and “webisodes” from screenwriters, producers, and directors who will have the opportunity to compete for major assignments from top marketers.

Branded content woke up, took off its pajamas, stretched and said to the image in the mirror, ‘Another day, another dollar.’

So if you’re looking for another place, other than our favorite AdHack, of course, check them out.

I’m not so sure the site feels quite right, like it totally gets it creator audience (see this registration form, for instance). But they have big dollars and brands behind the initial push. So good on ‘em for opening up the market.

We’ll just see how it shakes out. Hopefully not as another example of digital sharecropping.

Thanks to both Kate and Monique for sending along the story.

I am a storyteller who is always looking for a place to pitch, but this one seems a bit off… first, it’s a PR firm that supports 3rd world dictators and it represents Wal Mart. There’s two strikes. How is a PR firm going to do any better than a boutique? or a recognized ad firm? How does the writer\ideator protect themselves?

Hi Michael, thanks for the comment. I’m not sure of the answers to your questions and the website doesn’t seem to answer them either. I haven’t heard much about Edelman Studios since it launched, so I don’t even know it’s an ongoing concern.

As far as idea protection, I think your best bet is to take your own measures to establish prior art and ownership.
